Honda Confirms Turbo Four For U.S., Possible Hot Civic On The Way


We recently brought you news that a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine being developed for the not-for-U.S. Civic Type R would eventually be offered in our own Civic, finally giving the car the performance kick it needs to fend off rivals.

Going some way towards substantiating the earlier report is confirmation that Honda will offer a turbocharged four-cylinder engine starting this year.

At the 2015 Detroit Auto Show this week, Honda confirmed plans to start building the engine at its plant in Anna, Ohio. Honda is investing around $340 million in the plant to establish a third assembly line for the new engine.

No performance specs were revealed but Honda did say the engine would also feature the automaker’s VTEC variable valve timing technology. We drove an early prototype version back in 2013 that was rated at 280 horsepower, and came away quite impressed.

Talk about the type R has been around for a while. There was also talk about a type R mugen CRZ. Pretty exited to see what trigger Honda pulls here.

it'll be interesting for sure. I'd consider Honda again, if it were to happen. Just not a fan of the current k series motors.
